What is autism?

This seems like such a simple question, doesn’t it?  However, there is nothing simple about it.  The answer to this question is so muddied in personal opinions that it is difficult to answer if you understand that two people don’t have the same view.  So, I will try and pack the views on autism into several posts in the next few days.

Tomorrow, I will tackle the view of autism that view autism through a medical model of diagnosability and prognosis.

Just as a forewarning, these are not my opinions, they are a way for me to better understand different approaches to defining autism, which has to be the very first thing that I do in my thesis.  It is also a way to develop my writing voice to determine what fits best with me.
